The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious football tournaments in the world. It is also the most prestigious club competition in European football. Participants are members of European Football Associations (UEFA) organization where they are champions in their respective countries.
This season will mark the beginning of the new League format where there will be no separate groups anymore. No more groups of death, no more home and away against the same opponents, no more Champions League as we know it. There will be no group stage at all in the 2024/25 European campaign. All teams are ranked within one League table. But, they don’t meet all teams in this League. Each team just meet 8 teams, where they played once. Their results will be ranked with other 35 teams (there are 36 teams, expanded from 32 teams in previous season) where their position will define their Knock Out rounds places.
This spreadsheet is a tool to help you tracking Champions League schedule for season 2024/2025. And, the author of this spreadsheet has made a major modification to follow new format and tie-breaker for Champions League 2024/2025 season.
What are Major Changes in Champions League 2024/2025
- Teams are expanded from 32 teams to 36 teams
- Teams play other teams once in the League Stage. They play 8 times with 4 matches at home and 4 matches away.
- Results are ranked in League Table with New Tie-Breaker regulation as follows

As you can see above, tie-breaker 1-5 are common tie-breaker. Tie-breaker 6-8 are new tie-breaker to value the strength of particular team opponents, if teams that are having equal positions until tie-breaker no 5 have to go through tie-breaker number 6-8.
Also, there is a change in the tie-breaker rule made by UEFA in KO rounds or basically no tie-breaker changes being made in Knock Out rounds, start from season 2021/2022. There will be no more away goals counted to decide Head-to-Head winner between 2 teams. It applies in both group and knock out matches.
How to Use 2024/2025 Champions League Spreadsheet Template
As you can see in above image, teams are grouped into one group only or league. They will play 8 teams with 8 different teams where not all teams will meet in group stage.
Here are short instructions on how to use it
- League Phase : Just enter the scores
- Knock Out rounds : Place teams with rank 1 – 8 in Round of 16 brackets and teams with rank 9 – 24 in Play Off brackets. Then, put scores in each brackets and place winning teams from previous knock out stages to respective bracket in the next rounds. Do similar steps in Quarterfinals and Semi finals. Just follow drawings result from UEFA.
I will break down and explain how the tie-breaker works when all teams are revealed so you can get a better understanding of the 2024/2025 Champions League new competition format.
You can try this spreadsheet to see how new tie-breaker above works. Due to teams are not completed yet (7 teams remains to be decided) and UEFA will draw League matches in August 29, the spreadsheet will be release in the beginning of September.
