Serie A is a professional league competition for football clubs in Italy. League format is round robin where each team will meet twice within one season. It is regarded as one of the best football leagues in the world, one of top four leagues in Europe. In this current year, Serie A is eligible to send four teams to Champions League competition.

The league hosts three of the world’s most famous clubs as Juventus, Milan and Internazionale. Famous players are mostly coming from those clubs. These teams along with Lazio, Fiorentina, Roma and Napoli, are known as the Seven Sisters of Italian football. The Serie A Championship title is often referred to as the scudetto (“small shield”) because since the 1923–24 season, the winning team will bear a small coat of arms with the Italian tricolor on their strip in the following season.

Number of clubs in Serie A vary over time. There are 20 clubs that can compete in season 2020/2021. This format has been applied since 2004. 2019/2020 season could be remembered as a unique season because of pandemic situation. Matches from March are postponed. And it resumed without any fans cheered their teams in their home venue. Juventus defends their crown by slim margin over Internazionale. And in 2020/2021 season, Andrea Pirlo will replace Maurizio Sarri as Juventus head coach.

During the season, which runs from August to May (current season ending in August), each club plays each of the other teams twice; once at home and once away. There are 38 matches for each team. In the first half of the season each team plays once against each league opponent. In the second half of the season the teams play in exactly the same order that they did in the first half of the season. They switch their match venue.
